About us

What grows everywhere, without any effort from us, doesn’t need watering or fertilising or protection from bugs; is often more nutritious AND tastier than what grows in our veggie patch – and is FREE? Too good to believe? Then think again – the answer to that question is – EDIBLE WEEDS! Many of the plants we now call weeds have been eaten or used for their medicinal properties over thousands of years. There are countries where some are still considered delicacies today!
Author Doris PozziTo help you find, identify and enjoy edible weeds, author, Doris Pozzi, has written the booklet Edible Weeds and Garden Plants of Melbourne. Doris has been an avid veggie gardener for many years and says, ‘I spent most of my life pulling out perfectly edible plants from my garden only to replace them with often less nutritious and blander vegetables! When I think of the hard work I could have avoided!’ These days, whilst Doris still enjoys her veggie patch, she has now added a range of healthy and delicious edible weeds to her and her family’s diet. As her interest in edible weeds developed Doris found herself doing more and more research to discover the range of weeds available locally, their properties and ways of preparing them in the kitchen. Her booklet Edible Weeds and Garden Plants of Melbourne grew out of that interest. The booklet is Doris’ second published book, her first book Success With Soul (with co-author Stephen Williams) developed in a similar way from her motivation to lead a more sustainable and meaningful lifestyle. More recently this motivation has led to her completing a Permaculture Design Course and moving to a small acreage outside Melbourne. Edible Weeds and Garden Plants of Melbourne details over 25 of the most common edible weeds and garden plants in Melbourne. For each plant, colour photos are provided for easy identification. Information is provided on which parts of the plant are edible, how each can be prepared along with some history on its usage and, most importantly, the nutritional and medicinal properties of each plant - for many, these properties are substantial! Edible Weeds and Garden Plants of Melbourne is presented in an easy-to-read format with just a page or two on each plant. The booklet is perfect for taking on an Edible Weeds Walk or next time you are having a walk around your neighbourhood or garden. After reading it, your own garden and the parks and gardens around you will never look the same again!
Talks, walks and workshopsIn addition to her Weed Talks and Weed Walks, Doris is available to speak to gardening groups, schools or any other organisations who are interested in learning more about edible weeds and garden plants. She can also conduct a Weed Walk or Weed Workshop for your group. |
